The Triple Challenge
The Gold Challenge Cup Foundation introduced the Gold Cup Triple Challengesm competition in 2018, the first international rowing series that offers prize money of $50,000 to any rower, male or female, who places first in the following three single-scull championship events: Henley Royal Regatta, the World Rowing Championships or Olympics, and the Gold Cup. The Gold Cup Triple Challengesm will be held every other year coinciding with the Olympic year. It was held in 2022 and will be held next in 2024 and every other year thereafter.
The event builds on the Gold Cup Foundation’s mission to raise the profile of sculling around the world, in part by supporting elite athletes’ training and development financially through the recognition of premier sculling events with prize money.
The Gold Cup Triple Challengesm, is open to athletes across the globe, and further raises the prominence of single sculling among the world’s best athletes. Bill McNabb, chairman of the Gold Challenge Cup Foundation, said: “We’re passionate about supporting elite rowers and believe that The Gold Cup Triple Challengesm will inspire a new generation of athletes to focus on single sculling, and expand the fan base for sculling with the exciting prospects of a triple-winning champion.”
